Removing Watermarks and Highlighting from Entire Document

I have read the posts here regarding removal of watermarks and highlighting. None - zero - of the solutions listed actually works. I am using ver. 12.0.0.112. It will not recognize or remove the watermarks using the menu. It will also not remove the highlighting. I used the hand method to choose the highlighted text, but no menu appears as suggested. Any ideas?
