I discovered that doing an “extract” of all pages in a PDF document greatly reduces its size, almost as well at running an optimize.Running both operations (extract the full document then optimize) reduces it even more. The results were close to the same if I reverse the order of operation (optimize, then extract full document).See screenshot below for results of my testing.
I’d like to suggest that both file reduction techniques (extraction and optimization) be include in a single optimize operation.
