Using OCR on a newly scanned document dramatically increases the size where as Adobe Acrobat does not

I have both Adobe Acrobat and Nitro Pro. When I make a document searchable in Adobe Acrobat, the document size is actually smaller than the original. When I do the same (OCR suggestion) in Nitro Pro, the the document size increases by 5 to 10 times.

Why? How can I avoid this?? Can I remove "searchable" from the document and recover the original size?? Is there a "fix"??

I would like to understand the file growth as well. This problem is keeping me from buying Nitro.
