Nitro sometimes opens in the background

I am experiencing a weird phenomenon where sometimes, if Nitro is not already open, double-clicking a pdf will sometimes open in a foreground window and sometimes in a background window. Different pdfs in the same folder will do either action but will always act the same way on repeated attempts, and if Nitro is already open they will always open in the foreground. The background opening just started last week and I don't know what could have caused it.
