Power User Laura L. Posted November 2, 2017 Power User Report Share Posted November 2, 2017 Hey everyone, thank you for using our Community to reach out to us. I have started looking into this issue and the first thing I'd recommend is installing our latest update, 11.0.6.326, which can be downloaded here: https://www.gonitro.com/product/downloads Please then let me know if the issue continues. Thank you!
Jürgen
Hi Laura! I installed update. But it did not help. Things take very much time till they happen. Rest of Laptop and other Software: no Problem. Only nito (and this is new, I am using your nice Software for years now). By the way: my old nitro-version said "no update available" when I tried to get latest update the usual way. Update was no Problem using your link though. Thank you for your help! Thank you! It's well known that this does not help, and that the same problem affects the latest versions of both V10 and V11 of the software. It's also likely a Microsoft problem with MFC apps using high-res ribbons since the last Windows update, but that shouldn't stop Nitro support looking for a workaround
Power User Laura L. Posted November 2, 2017 Power User Report Share Posted November 2, 2017 Thank you for the responses! Jürgen
Thank you for putting my ticket into this line of tickets to same topic. This makes sense. Hope you can solve this soon.
JCBLUE
I am having the same problem as well. After following Nitro Pro's suggestions and providing tons of detail, screen shots, videos, etc. I am applying for a product refund. Since I am not experiencing this with any other programs. Jürgen
I use a "trick": clicking on each ribbon only takes Long the first time you do it. Then it is kind of "loaded". I just don't close nitro if I really work with pdf (putting Things togehter etc).
JCBLUE
Jürgen, do you have any problems when printing? When I try to print, the print dialog box appears in pieces over about a 10 second time frame. And should we really have to use a 'trick' for software that costs over $100? Jürgen
Hi JCBLUE. I love and need some features like high-res pdf and putting pdfs together. Nitro is strong with that and usually a pleasure to work with. I looked at many other offers, Nitro is just what I need. This is why I am willing to pay and wait now. Although the bug is very painfull. Off course if they are not able to solve it in reasonable time, I have to look for alternatives. Currently I do not only use my „trick“ but changed my standard-software when using pdf to a simple pdf reader. Nitro is only in use for my above described purposes. I will change that again when Nitro is fixed. Nitro pro only makes sense if the availble for-free-software (reader, save as pdf in Microsoft) is not sufficient for your purpose. Jamie
I responded to my ticket twice. Then I got a "waiting on you" email with an attempt to close my ticket. Please don't close my ticket!
Achim
I can confirm this problem, even on a decent Workstation (AMD Ryzen 1800X, Samsung SSD, etc.) Nitro takes 30 - 40 seconds to load and switching tabs is extremely slow so it is not usable. No other application on my machine shows this behaviour.
David Epstein
Any updates on progress resolving this issue? I, too, submitted a trouble ticket..... TIA David
R JK
I too am having the problem. I am a long time Nitro user and have my whole law firm on it. I knew the problem was caused by the windows 10 fall creator's update as soon as the update was loaded. Incredibly slow to change tabs, load files and load files to print. It can take 3-5 minutes to load a 100 page pdf for printing - when the pdf is saved locally so there is no internet connectivity issue. We need a solution to this problem as we work with pdf's every single hour of every single day. Open a ticket for me as well. Hoping for a very timely response. Thanks. Administrators Mario Kevesic Posted November 7, 2017 Administrators Report Share Posted November 7, 2017 @R JK I'm unable to locate a ticket under your email address. Please let me know if you used the same email address as listed on your profile here and if you actually received the submission case confirmation email. Thanks! R JK
I did not receive a case confirmation email but, for clarity, only made my request in this forum (above) as I understood others had. Regardless, I imagine you are looking for a solution and, like others, look forward to hearing that one is on the way. As others have said, the problem with the update makes the program virtually unworkable. We would rather not have to look for an alternative, firm wide. Thanks. billr
I am having same problem--running Windows 10, version 1709. Submitted support ticket on 11/7/17. Just recently purchased Nitro Pro and am quite disappointed. Updated to version 11.0.6.326 and did not help. Switched my default PDF reader back to Adobe Reader so I can at least view PDFs quickly. Power User Edwin Courts Posted November 8, 2017 Power User Report Share Posted November 8, 2017 I've got tired of waiting for movement on this issue, which has seriously affected my ability to work with PDF content, at least with Nitro. Countless tickets appear to have been opened, and all are stagnant. A number of Nitro "specialists" have responded on this thread with promises to come back with information, but none have. Today I found this interesting article - https://www.tenforums.com/performance-maintenance/96792-fall-creators-update-poor-performance-lagginess-fix.html There is a suggestion for a workaround to the problem - disabling CFG (Control Flow Guard), which I've done, and it largely seems to fix the problem. I don't believe Nitro is fully back to speed, and opening the Print model is still slowish (1-2) seconds but that's MUCH better than the 10-15 seconds previously. Elsewhere in the article is a suggestion that there is a Windows fix in the pipeline, maybe even next week, so one can hope. I have to assume that Nitro are using the"GetPixel" function in their software, either implicitly or explicitly, so the following comment may also be relevant: Quote There's one system function, called GetPixel - which Microsoft stresses in their own documentation, you should never ever use, because it's slow as hell. This function is affected by one of these exploit preventions, making it further 10-100x slower.
David Epstein
I got a reply from Technical Support with a suggested fix that I'll try when I get home tonight. I was experiencing this slowdown problem before upgrading to the Fall Creators update the day it became available, at which point the slowness got exponentially worse. I tried uninstalling with Revo Uninstaller Pro and then reinstalling the most recent version of Nitro Pro (11.0.6.326). No change. I have a Surface Pro 4, 64-bit machine. # # # # I recommend that you repair Nitro via the Control Panel > Programs and FeaturesPlease reboot your computer before and after running this repair to ensure that there are no ties to Nitro still active in the background. If that does not work, please try these steps:1. Download our Clean Up utility: http://install.nitropdf.com/support/downloads/cleanup.zipNOTE: This clean-up tool will erase any existing signature files within Nitro so please save them to another location before using the clean-up tool in order to keep them. Please see this link for backing up custom stamps/signatures: http://kb.gonitro.com/knowledgebase#/search/stamps/0000020382. Extract the utility to the desktop (it doesn't always run from the zip)3. Run the utility4. Reboot5. Download the latest version of Nitro Pro 11 from here:https://www.gonitro.com/product/downloadsIf you are not sure which to pick, this will help: http://support.nitropdf.com/entries/21503323-32-bit-vs-64-bit-installer6. After installation, you can activate by opening Nitro, clicking on the Help tab > About Nitro Pro > Activation and entering your serial: (redacted)Please let us know how you go.
