Printing (amending) to pdf wipes out all text not flattened

In today's latest download version (and prior versions) of Nitro, we just discovered 'print' amending to an existing pdf wipes out all text in the entire pdf file that was/is not flattened.

Loosing our pdf text file notes is huge; a deal breaker for using Nitro.

Is there a remedy, or is this yet another unresolved Nitro problem?

Hi, I'd like to try to reproduce this and file a bug report if I can reproduce it (if you can file a bug report, that would be great as well).

Can you give me more specific details on what to do?

I tried briefly and wasn't able to get this to happen.

I opened a PDF, made some changes to it (used the type text tool), and saved it as a different file.

I then went back to the original, did more markup on it (highlight, note box, and call out), and did File- Print, Nitro 11 PDF Printer, and chose the file that I made the change to, and picked Amend.

When I open that file, the changes are all packed into the end of the file- there's the original pages, and then a copy of those pages plus the changes I made.

Hi Steven,

First - thank you for getting involved - I appreciate that.

It should have duplicated.  You recreated preciously the steps that would duplicated the problem; the print (amend) should have wiped your 'type text tool' edits from the document you printed to using Nitro 11, amend function.  And - it doesn't sound like you flatted the text when you closed the pdf you were going to later print to using Nitro 11 printer.

In our environment, the Nitro 11 print would have wiped clean the un-flattened text.

To further the mystery - we are experiencing this problem on 2 separate computers;

Computer 1 = Windows 8.1 Pro, Nitro Pro 11.0.7.411

Computer 2 = Windows 10 Pro, Version 1607, OS Build 14393.2007 plus Nitro 11.0.7.425

I don't want to dump on you the task of reporting the bug - i just don't know how to do that.  Have you direction to offer on filing a bug report?

Thank you, Keith

@Keith M51 I suggest submitting a ticket only if you have current Software Assurance. Otherwise, my suggestion is to record a screencast and post the link to it on here. We were not able to replicate this on our end either so we need to figure out what's the difference between your workflow and ours or Steven's. If you don't have a tool to record a screencast, you can always try JING, since it's free of charge: https://www.techsmith.com/jing-tool.html

Excellent Mario!!  Here are the links;

Document A - beginning document

Document B - precise steps I go through to print to Document A

Document C - The final product of printing (appending to the end of page) Document B to Document A

Please let me know how I can better display to you the workflow that creates the issue.  Thank you for your involvement and for coaching me up on JING!  Well done!  Keith

Hello @Keith M51,

Thanks for your patience and for reaching out to us through our Community Forums!

Please be informed that when you add text / notes / call-out boxes to a file, it resides in the Annotative layer which floats above the Content Layer.

Said functions has to be brought down to the Content Layer by using Save As > Flatten before you append or combine them with another PDF document which you're already aware of.

With this, we will create feature enhancement and forward it to our Product team for assessment. As much as I would want to, I cannot provide an ETA on when it will be implemented.

Kindly check for updates on below page from time to time: https://www.gonitro.com/support/documentation

I hope this helps!

Very good, thank you for helping us better understand this.  So - the condition is inherent; our bad as we just didn't catch we were loosing all notes not flattened in a file when we Nitro pdf printed.

Understood now.  Looking forward to hopeful feature enhancement.

Thank you again.
