Nitro will not open or install after Windows 10 upgrade

Recommended Posts

Pete F

I run Nitro Pro 8 on my 64bit Windows PC. Today I updated Windows to 10.0.17134 and Nitro refused to open. When I looked at the Task Manager I could see in background processes that it was attempting to open multiple instances.

I tried "Repair"...no change

I uninstalled and then downloaded Nitro Pro 8 64 bit from the Nitro website. However, the install hangs at at the first step (preparing to install) and will go no further...I've waited 6 hours without success and when I click cancel the installer hangs and I have to use Task Manager to kill the process.

I use Nitro all the time so this is a major issue for me...please help.

Hi @Pete F

I recommend that you reboot the computer, then try this installer: http://install.nitropdf.com/pro8/en/retail/nitro_pro8_x64.exe
If that doesn't work, please try this Microsoft utility: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed

If you still have no luck, you can try:
1. Download our Clean Up utility: http://install.nitropdf.com/support/downloads/cleanup.zip
2. Extract the utility to the desktop (it doesn't properly run from within the zip)
3. Run the utility (This will wipe Nitro from your system)
4. Reboot and try the above installer.

I should also mention that your serial will only cover you for the version you purchased.
A Pro 8 serial will only work with Pro 8.

If you wanted to upgrade, you can do so from here: https://www.gonitro.com/pro/upgrade

Thanks Alex, the Clean Up utility followed by a restart and reinstall has solved the issue.

I've got the exact same problems on both my Windows 10 machines. Tried the clean up, re-installing multiple times but if I can get it working it usually only lasts a few days then stops again.

Do you have any other options?

Exact same problem today with Nitro Pro 12, most recent version.  Will try cleanup tool.

Hi. I am now having a recurrence of this issue. The uninstall/clean up utility and full reinstall worked for a while but I am now having to do this process a couple of times a week...which obviously is very time consuming as it requires me to reinstate signatures, protection profiles etc.

Do you have a solution to this other than to have to keep repeating reinstalls?

Thanks

Hello @Pete F,

Unfortunately we no longer support or update Nitro Pro 8. It has been discontinued as documented in our Sunset Policy: https://www.gonitro.com/nps/product-details/sunset-policy

If you would like to trial our latest product, Nitro Pro 12, you can download it from here: https://www.gonitro.com/pro/try

It will run as a full featured product for 14 days! After that, if you choose not to purchase it, you can still use it as a PDF Reader.

Hope that helps!
