Cannot start Nitro Pro 10 on Windows 10 64 bit

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have Nitro Pro 10.5 installed on Windows 10.

There is no other PDF viewer installed nor do I use multipleonitor. It is a home PC.

When I click on the program icon or try to open any PDF file Nitro icon appears in the taskbar and a thin orange line appears just above task bar. Nitro does not open itself nor any file. Thumbnail shows nitro is opened.

Trief to repair and reinstall multiple times. One time via compatibility wizard. Went to properties, compatibility and clicked 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:

Previous version of Windows'

Then run compatibility troubleshooter and test installed nitro and rebooted. No luck, repaired still no luck

Help appreciated

Thank you

Hi @White Lotus,

Thanks for posting on our Community Forums!

I need to let you know that we no longer support Nitro Pro 10.
It has been discontinued as documented in our Sunset Policy: https://www.gonitro.com/support/sunset-policy#sunsetPolicy

If you would like to trial our latest product, Nitro Pro 12, you can download it from here: https://www.gonitro.com/pro/try
It will run as a full featured product for 14 days! After that, if you choose not to purchase it, you can still use it as a PDF reader.

Alternatively, if you prefer to keep using Nitro Pro 10, I suggest doing a fresh install of Nitro Pro and make sure there are no corrupt files.

Kindly use this MS FixIt tool to remove all traces of Nitro Pro:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall

When you are doing a reinstall, before you download a new installer, it is important that you delete all Nitro Pro installers in your Downloads folder because we noticed that if you are saving all the installers you download in the same folder (like the downloads folder), the EXE can pick up any MSI installed in that folder, and may pick-up one of the older builds instead of the new one.

Reboot. When your system is back up, install the latest build of Nitro Pro 10 using the link I have provided below:

http://kb.gonitro.com/knowledgebase#/search/retail/000001632
If you are not sure which to pick, this will help: http://kb.gonitro.com/knowledgebase#/search/32/000001874

After installation, you can activate by opening Nitro, clicking on the Help tab > About Nitro Pro > Activation and enter your serial number.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hi Kelvin,

Thank you for the response. I already tried fresh install. However, as you have suggested I will try to remove (purge) software using tool you have mentioned and copy installer to a new folder before beginning.

Our need is not high, just normal viewing, scanning and optimizing PDFs. At times just add / remove / insert pages, nothing more. Rarely use it for filling forms. We do not need cloud support or dropbox support. I feel that any software / app constantly trying to connect to net frequently and to any cloud based service slows down the PC. Nitro pro 7 was the best and the fastest I have seen when I did trial. I do not wish nitro to be a resource hog.

Is it possible to give a downloadable link for Nitro pro 10.xx.xx version - with latest patch from archives?

If not, is it possible to upgrade it, as when I type in serial key on the upgrade page, says I need to contact Nitro Manager? I know I need Nitro v11 to upgrade to v12 and not v10

I am contemplating on cost cutting :) as I may be using only 20 % of features. Upgrade is cheaper than new buy :)

My PC still does not have 1809 October Update which I soon expect to get installed. In your opinion, is it better to upgrade and then try newer version?

Thank you for the help.

Regards

Thank you @Steven Zakulec for providing the link!

Hi @White Lotus! Users can now upgrade older versions to version 12. Feel free to send me your serial number (via direct message) you are trying to upgrade so I can check it out for you.

I suggest taking advantage of the 14-day trial and see how the latest version works for you. I can also extend the trial period if you need more time evaluating the program.

Cheers!

Thank  you @Steven Zakulec for providing link and thank you @Kelvin V. for the support.

PC is at my uncle's home. I will contact him and let you know. If he gives me serial no, I will DM you.

I am also thinking of updating windows 10 with October update before trying Nitro pro v12

Kind Regards

Hello @Kelvin V. and @Steven Zakulec,

Thank you both for the help.

I downloaded nitro pro from the link provided, removed old installation using MS fixit tool, rebooted and then did fresh install. Did not work

So I tried it under compatibility with win 7 and scaling DPI

This time, a welcome screen did came up and I entered serial key. Product was activated, but then again the same problem.

Please find screen shot in the link

Only program is open, not a pdf file. You can see orange line.

I doubt even if I try new version there will be a problem. Please help.

Thank you.

Dear All,

The issue is solved. It was a resolution problem. I changed display resolution to lower one and it worked th n tried to see if higher resolution works or not. Finally I kept the original highest resolution and it worked.

Right now Nitro pro 10 is installed under Windows 8 compatibility mode and tweaked display resolution.

I am Not deleting earliet post with screenshots so that others can benefit from it.

Thank you all for the help.

Regards
