Checkbox Fields Incorrectly Filled on Some PDF's Filled Using Nitro Pro 12

We have been using Nitro Pro 12 for a while now and it has been great. However, we have ran into a peculiar issue.

On some PDF's, for example the IRS Form SS-4, if we use Nitro Pro to fill out the fillable check boxes it will show all check boxes in that section as checked on some PDF viewers.

So if we check a single box in section 9a of the SS-4 form and then view it with Apple's PDF viewer, it will have all of the check boxes in that section checked.

We tested using Adobe Acrobat Reader but we could not reproduce the problem outside of Nitro. I have a feeling it may have something to do with the fact that these IRS forms were created using Adobe LiveCycle and Nitro may not be handling it properly.

Is there a particular setting in Nitro we can change to work around this problem?

Thanks

  • Official Nitronaut

Hello Kalen,

Yes you are right, files created using a program called Adobe LiveCycle which utilizes XFA / XML forms architecture which is not compliant with the PDF 2.0 specification set by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization). Due to this, we cannot officially support this format.

This compatibility has been greatly improved with Nitro Pro 10-12, however, some errors may still occur.

As a workaround you can re-print the file to PDF by following the steps below:

•    Open the document in Adobe Reader
•    Go to the File menu, and click Print
•    Choose the Nitro Pro Printer, and click the Print button
•    When prompted to Save, save the new document to the desired location
•    Open the new document in Nitro Pro

Though please note that the results may vary. Should you find that the output is not desirable, as this is a proprietary Adobe format, we suggest trying Adobe reader for this specific file.

I hope this helps!
