PDF file upload in Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox

I have installed Nitro Pro 13.8.2.140 on my desktop computer no problems but Nitro Pro won't open a PDF file attached to emails within Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox.   I get the message:  "The creation process encountered an error, and failed to create the PDF file."  Once in awhile it works but most of the time it won't, so I save the PDF attachment to my downloads folder and go there to open the PDF document using Nitro Pro without a problem.  Adobe reader can open attached PDF files within both Thunderbird and Firefox most of the time but occasionally won't as well.  What can I do to overcome this problem?  I went into the Support Tool dialog, selected the PDF creation tab and made sure all the Add-Ins were selected via Update Add-Ins, that didn't fix it.  Both Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox are updated to current versions.
