Is there a way to convert a pdf in color to grayscale?

I am trying to reduce a 17mb file down to 5mb and the original PDF is in color. I tried optimizing and the only way i can get it to the size limit i have is to go down to 72 dpi. Unfortunately, the document becomes very hard to read.

Since I dont need it on color I think converting it to grayscale will reduce the size then maybe I can optimize it from there.

This case is file-specific, you will get different results for different files. You will have to play around with some settings for some files.
