Text Fields Randomly Convert to Check Boxes

This problem is making me crazy. I'm creating text fields on a contract in .pdf format for simple data entry. As I work my way down the page, I copy (with formatting) and repeatedly the same text box to maintain dimensional consistency. After pasting each box, I adjust the width and the name of the field and move on to the next. Then, all of a sudden, the boxes convert from text to check boxes and when I delete the check box and try to replace it with a text box, it just keeps converting to a check box.  What do I do?

Hello @larrystout,

Thank you for reaching out to us through our Community Forums!

In the other forum thread, I responded with steps to upgrade to Nitro Pro 13 using the correct installers.

If same issue persists after upgrading, could you please provide a few sample PDF files that exhibits this rare behavior?

To send them via private message, hover your mouse on top of my name 'AllainU' and select 'Message'.

Thank you very much in advance and I am looking forward to hearing back from you.

FYI, I had already purchased the Pro 13 upgrade when I wrote you about this problem, but I was having problems with installation which we subsequently remedied. The problem I identified in my original post goes back a long time ago, way before there ever was a version 13 but I have not tried to build a new form since I loaded 13 so can't respond to that.  I will provide added insight into the  circumstances when it happens. I had the problem when I created a text box in the dimensions I wanted, and then copied and pasted that box repeatedly and moved the newly created box into the next location where I needed data entry. I would then go to properties and change the field name to prevent duplication of data. At some point in this copy and past process, the new boxes would change to check boxes after I changed the name of the field. I could deleted and repeat the box creation process but sill could not prevent the  conversion to a check box. I solved the problem by abandoning the copy and past process and just creating a new box for every data entry I needed. Of course, there is variance in the height of the various boxes, but at least they did not convert to check boxes. I tried to use the process to make all boxes the same height but it didn't work.

Hello @Brigid Crompton,

Thank you for reaching out to us through our Community Forums!

The answer is yes because Nitro Pro 13 includes improvements in rendering of form elements, such as checkboxes, to support compatibility with other PDF readers:
https://www.gonitro.com/nps/product-details/release-notes

If you are interested in upgrading your license to Nitro Pro 13 with a discounted rate, kindly access our Upgrade Portal and enter your Nitro Pro 12 serial number:   https://www.gonitro.com/pro/upgrade

In addition to that and many other feature improvements, version 13 also contains some important security vulnerabilities fixes that you might want to consider when deciding whether to upgrade to it or not. You can find out more about these fixes here: https://www.gonitro.com/nps/security/updates

Thank you for choosing Nitro and I hope this helps.

Hello @Michael Riggin,

Thank you for reaching out to us through our Community Forums!

Looking at your purchase date, you have activated the program last March and I believe you are still working with an older build of the program.

If this correct and for the sake of troubleshooting, could you please perform these steps?:

1. Clear the content of the directory under C:\users\your_username\Appdata\local\temp. For whatever reason, not all temp files automatically remove themselves and is NOT usually caused by Nitro Pro files. Kindly note Appdata folder is hidden and to unhide it, please refer to this article https://cybertext.wordpress.com/2012/05/29/cant-see-the-appdata-folder/

2. Download and run our Clean Up utility to uninstall your Nitro Pro:  http://install.nitropdf.com/professional_13381739/install-cleanup/install-cleanup.zip

NOTE: This clean-up tool will erase any existing signature files within Nitro so please save them to another location before using the clean-up tool in order to keep them. Please see this link for backing up custom stamps/signatures:  https://kb.gonitro.com/knowledgebase#/search/stamps/000004307

3. Clear all your downloads folder or delete all downloaded Nitro installers. This step is important because we noticed that if you are saving all the installers and you download them in the same folder (like the downloads folder), the EXE can pick up any MSI installer in that folder and you may pick-up one of the older builds instead of the newly downloaded package.

4. Download and install Nitro Pro 13.38 using below offline installers:

x32 http://install.nitropdf.com/professional_13381739/en/retail/nitro_pro13_ba_x86.msi
x64 http://install.nitropdf.com/professional_13381739/en/retail/nitro_pro13_ba_x64.msi

To know if you have 32-bit or 64-bit, please refer to this article:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/15056/windows-32-64-bit-faq

5. After installation, you can activate by opening Nitro Pro, clicking on the Help tab > About Nitro Pro > Activate by entering your serial number 5049xx-xxxxxx-755867

If you are still having issue after performing above steps, could you please provide the following?:

-Does this happen with every file? If it is a single file, please send us the sample file (with sensitive information extracted) so I can replicate it on my end.

-A screenshots that describes the issue you are experiencing. To find out how to take a screen shot using Snipping Tool, check out this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots-00246869-1843-655f-f220-97299b865f6b

To send them via private message, hover your mouse on top of my name 'AllainU' and select 'Message'.

Thank you very much in advance and I am looking forward to hearing back from you.
