If Nitro PDF is set as default software for PDF files , Windows is freezing, File explores self closing down, Keyboard is getting off for few seconds

I'm using Nitro Pro ver. 13.49.2.993 . When Nitro Pro is set as default app for PDF documents whole Windows desktop including the application taskbar is freezing and like refreshing every 60-90 sec.  When it's happening the MS File Explorer  is closing down and have to be reopened from scratch. Also when typing a text in Outlook message the kayboard is like hanging and off use for some 5-10 sec.

When set Acrobat Reader DC is set as the default app for PFD files all works correctly.

Please use the tool I have provided below to remove all files associated with Nitro Pro and reboot your system.

NOTE: This clean-up tool will erase any existing signature files within Nitro, so please save them to another location before using the clean-up tool in order to keep them.

When your system is back up, close all your open applications and install Nitro Pro 13.49 from the page I have provided below:

Thank you for your response and patience.

If you have Windows 10, please use the steps below to change your default PDF viewer:

1. Find a PDF file and Right Click then go to Open With then "Choose Another App".
2. Navigate or scroll to the program you want to use to open your PDF file and then select this program. For this instance, choose Nitro Pro 13.
3. Check the box "Always use this app to open .pdf files' then click OK.

Nitro Pro 13  version 13.49.2.993 latest update in September 10

Allain- I don't think what OP is getting at is changing the default pdf program is his problem. He means, it is Nitro causing problems when it IS the default pdf app!

- I have now realized that, after the update, I had had a similar issue as OP with my desktop icons and taskbar reloading and flashing, file explorer or other open windows I was working with would close when the flashes took place every 10-30 seconds. Also, MS Outlook 2019 was reporting that "Nitro add-in" was causing Outlook to load slow. I thought it could be my monitor, so switched monitors- problems still occurred. Then, thought it was my pc beginning to crash. A computer tech tried So I ordered a brand new Dell Optiplex 7090 i7-11700- workied with the new pC for a number of hours the day I received it and it worked great until after I installed Nitro 13.49.2.993-the problems began occurring on my brand new PC immediately after the Nitro Pro 13 was install and activated! So, I uninstalled and deleted all of the files and found on your forums to use the 'clean up' file. I did that and redownloaded again. The same problems began happening.

At this point I have again uninstalled all Nitro and ran the clean-up. I have been trying to find and install the version immediately before the latest update of 13- it worked fine, but I cannot seem to find where you had all of the recent update files. I had to find a reversion previously for another matter. I have been a licensed purchaser of Nitro for many years and this has been extremely frustrating and expensive! My PC works great without Nitro installed! 

Can you have your team please look into these issues and release a new Nitro Pro13 update to repair this? I keep checking back.

I just reran the uninstall clean-up to see what might happen if I reinstalled latest version again and this is what command prompt window states:

Thank you for your comments! The description of the problem is absolutely correct about everything - all those flashings and reloading of taskbar, file explorer windows closes etc.etc.. All above comments are also the same with me. 

You are right, @AllainU didn't understand the issue we have . I have no problems to set Nitro Pro PDF as my Default PDF app, just when I do that all those problems starts again!

Still expect to get some support from Nitro!

Yes! I've have been using the Pro12 trial version in the meantime and keep looking out for the next Pro13 update to try it again. Seems they have been updating about once a month.

After further digging our resources, we have received reports from a few users with similar behavior and our product team is still investigating.

While waiting for their update, could you please try disabling the thumbnail provider on your machines by referring to these steps?:

1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog

2. Type cmd and then press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER (to open in admin mode)

3. Click yes on the user account control dialog

4. Navigate to the Nitro folder by entering the following command cd "c:\Program Files\Nitro\Pro\13" and pressing enter

5. Disable the Thumbnail provider by running regsvr32 /u NitroPDFThumbnailProvider.dll and pressing enter

6. A prompt saying “DllUnregisterServer in NitroPDFThumbnailProvider.dll succeeded” should appear, just click ok.

Hello! I reinstalled Pro13 to follow your above instructions (had previously reverted to the latest version of 12 due to problems). However, I was stuck at  "4. Navigate to the Nitro folder by entering the following command cd "c:\Program Files\Nitro\Pro\13" and pressing enter" The command was repeatedly not recognized-- "C:\Windows\system32>c:\Program Files\Nitro\Pro\13
'c:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." So, I attempted to change the "c:\windows\system32>" part to what you indicated, also, but I was unable to do that. Is there something I'm missing? I don't know how to make the \windows\system32 not appear or editable. 

In the meantime, I went back to 12 again.

It seems that you did not included the cd before the "c:\Program Files\Nitro\Pro\13" that is why you are getting the not recognized as an internal or external command.  cd means change directory based on the path that is enclosed with quotation marks. 

Here's a screenshot of what should happen and not if the cd is not included:

Left image shows that it successfully changed the directory to c:\Program Files\Nitro\Pro\13 while the right image shows not recognized since there is a missing command and that is the cd.

this "cd" issue was not clear in Nitro's instructions and makes confusion also for me. Luckily my SysAdmin was skilled enough and used "cd" abbreviation  like you said . 

I already confirmed you that your recommended action have fixed the problem we are communication about for long!  I have no problems since then.

there is another ticket just set were the official Nitronaut has asked me to update Nitro Pro to the latest ver.13.50. Unfortunately, the issue with frequent reloading of PC's front-page had been faced again if Nitro Pro is set as my default PDF's app! 

I did the  same action been advise by you previously (see below) which fixed the issue but it's not good to do the same as soon as Nitro versions will be updated!

Agreed. I have also updated to Latest Version: 13.50.4.1013 | Release date: October 25, 2021 last week and the flashing problem returned. The issue does not appear to be fixed with newest release. I have also gone ahead and disabled the thumbnail provider as previously instructed for the prior release and Nitro 13 is at least operational.

For those who did not wait too long, you can uninstall the latest windows 10 updates. I simply uninstalled the latest November windows updates and windows no longer misbehaves when playing with Nitro Pro.

For me, a reliable .pdf program is essential. If I can't do business because I have no longer have a .pdf program, it is little different than getting nailed by a security issue the updates may have prevented. Either way I cannot do business.

I have installed the latest version of nitro pro 13 (13.53.3.1073) about a week or two ago and have an issue with windows explorer suspending every 60 seconds. This happens even if nitro pro is not open. I had this issue before with the same computer but running an older version of nitro pro 13 and thought updating to the newest would resolve it. I'm also running the latest windows updates as of a 1-2 weeks ago when I installed the newest version of nitro pro 13. Is there a specific version of nitro pro 13 I should be running to resolve this issue?

I have already completely wiped the computer and reinstalled the software. I waited a couple weeks before installing nitro pro 13 to confirm that there was not an issue being caused by one of the other programs. Everything was running perfectly until I installed nitro pro. The issue also went away after uninstalling nitro pro. Any information on how to resolve this issue would be great as the product is completely unusable in its current state. 

I have several other users with similar settings and have not received any reports of this issue. It only occurs on this one computer.

Dear Zachary West. It seems NITRO didn't fixed this issue and I agree that is very annoying. So week ago I have got above instructions from Nitronaut  and it fixed the issue very well. But when you do update of Nitro to the newest versions the Suspending issue we are talking about is back again (if Nitro been set as Default PDF's app)!
